  • 2030 Draft Discussion - Draft will begin Fri 1/4

The draft utility has been loaded and turned on. The draft will begin Friday, January 4th! Teams may pick manually anytime before that.

    http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/blb/...draftBoard.php

    Pick Time Limits:
    1st Round and 2nd Round: 4 hours
    Remaining Rounds: 2 hours

The draft clock runs between 8am and 10pm ET. The utility will autopick for you if you go over your time. Managers who go over their time limit will be placed on Autopick until they return. Please make use of the preference list to avoid going over the time limit.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to use the utility.

    Preference List Usage

    - To add players to your Preference List click the check box next to their name and click the 'Add to List' button. You can then move players up and down the list or remove them using the provided buttons.

    Team War Room

The Team War Room is available only to logged in users who are currently in control of a team as defined in the league file. From here, teams can review the available players, see what picks they’ve made and when their next ones are due, manage their draft list, configure their auto draft settings, and manually draft players if it is their turn to pick.

To add players to the draft list, click the check box next to their name, then click the Add To List button. You can add multiple players at once, and they are added in the order they appear on the page, not the order clicked. Use the up/down/remove buttons next to the draft list to manage the players once they’re on the list. The view button will take you to the HTML page of the highlighted player in the draft list.

There are three options under user preferences that GM’s should address:

Auto Draft From List: Checking this option tells the draft code to go ahead and pick the top player off your draft list should the draft come around to your pick. If you leave this box unchecked the draft will not auto select from your draft list even if it is your turn to pick.

Auto Draft…: Checking this check box tells the draft code to make an auto selection of your pick. If you have this box and the auto draft from list box checked, the draft code will first check your draft list for the first available player, and then auto your pick only if there are no available players left on your draft list. If this box is checked, but the auto draft from list box is not checked, your draft list will be ignored when the draft auto picks for your team.

…After Round: If you have the auto draft option checked, and entered a draft round number in this field, then the draft will wait until that round has completed before auto picking for your team. For example, a team may wish to make manual picks in their first three draft rounds, but auto pick the remaining 7 rounds of a 10 round draft. In that case, you would click the auto draft check box, and enter 3 in the draft round field. The utility will then auto select for you in rounds 4 and higher. If this field is
left blank and the auto draft box is checked, then all rounds will be auto drafted. If this field contains a number, but the auto draft box is not checked, then no auto picks will be made even after the round specified.
The save button will save both the draft list and the user preferences. You MUST click this button to save changes to your draft list.

If it is your team’s turn to pick in the draft, the “Add To List” button will be replaced by a button used to make a draft pick. In this case, check the box next to the player you wish to draft and click the button.

Remember to click 'Save' after you make any changes to your draft preferences or player preference list.

    Pick order before trade:

Please take a look over your Team Warroom and make sure your picks coincide with any trades you were involved in. The traded pick thread can be found below.

Lots of discussion going on... so I'll write a few notes:

#1 - "Berserker ranks as the #2 prospect in NCAA, is a strikeout machine and a lefty with four plus pitches. High work ethic and intelligence. Never been hurt. I think he was probably the #1 guy on a lot of boards but he does have a few question marks for a #1 overall pick. He's given up 11 HRs in 10 starts this year after just giving up two last year. He does have high greed and while he's never been hurt, he's not listed as "durable." He also has a ways to go on his development. But his stuff looks electric. 96 MPH at 20. He had three starts this year with 10+ K, one of which, he struck out 13 without walking a batter.

#2 - Perry ranks as the #3 prospect in NCAA and the #1 current rated pitcher. I think if his stamina was better, he's probably the first pick. Durable. Righty. Throws six pitches. Groundball. 96 MPH. Gave up just four HRs in 20 starts. Leads all eligible NCAA draftees in career WAR. He actually feels pretty safe to be really good but the lingering stamina issue remains unanswered. There have been numerous SP's drafted in the 35-45 stamina range. Some make it as a SP. Some don't. In college, they have a pretty quick pitch count, usually about 80, so these lower stamina guys aren't hurt at that level. In the BLB though, a 40 stamina guy doesn't often get out of the 7th inning. However, the #1 pitcher in baseball right now is far from a workhorse.

#3 - Seeing a trend here, Martin ranks as the #4 NCAA prospect. If he hadn't got hurt this year, I'm sure he would be in the running for #1 or #2. He won the NCAA pitcher of the year last year. 97 MPH. Groundball. Righty. Four pitches. High intelligence. If his back isn't an issue going forward, he could end up better than Rocco or Perry.

#4 - Our first curveball. Thompson is a RP, but he hits 100 MPH, his stats are great, he's a leader and works hard. He also has really good stamina for a RP, and could end up being a two-inning stopper. The bigger question with him is about his "Fragile" tag. He's never been hurt before but that's a little troublesome for someone trying to hit triple digits on the gun. He strikes out almost two batters an inning.

#5 - "Punk" Baldwin ranks just 64th on the HS Top prospect list but his stats are arguably the best of any SP at that level. The concern with him, like Thompson before, is his fragility. He's had three injuries and a setback in three years.

#6 - Speaking of injuries... "Rascal" Reeves has been hurt four times, but when he has been on the field, his stats are off the charts. Not a ton of power, but he has speed, high work ethic and unlike a lot of the top projected hitters, he should be solid defensively.

                --

At this point, no NCAA hitter has been selected nor anyone from the CCBL. BDub is up

At 1.10 California selects SP Jayden Adams from the Miami Hurricanes. My scout had him rated as the sixth best prospect in the draft and thinks he will emerge "as a top of the rotation starter". OSA projects 75/60/50 and our scout has 60/5560... somewhere in the middle would be nice. He also has three plus pitches, including a hammer curve, to go with a groundball rate of 53%. We were quite happy to have him still available at #10, as our organization is almost devoid of any starting pitching talent in the minor leagues.

The Bats made two picks in round one, as we had Seattle's pick as well as our own. The picks were:

1.20 - SP Kaleb Kay - A 6'6" lefty out of Cathedral High School. Kay hits 92-94 on the radar gun and should feature 3 plus pitches when he's developed. He was 2nd in K/9 in his first season and led all of HS in that category in his second. This season hasn't been quite as prolific, but still he's put up good numbers. He should be able to go deep into games and lefty starters are always valuable.

1.24 - RF Evan Dexter - OSA really likes this guy, my scout isn't quite as high. At LSU, Dexter has crushed the ball as long as he's been on the field. Unfortunately, staying on the field has been a problem for him due to a couple of injuries, but he's not listed as fragile so I'll take a chance here. He's been limited to 169 ABs at the college level, but he's hitting at a .396 (1.296 OPS) rate. He should also be average or above average as a field in the corner spots. I think he might have been gone sooner if he'd been able to stay healthy, but it's a legitimate concern. If he stays healthy, I like his potential.
