It was a razor-sharp performance by Luis Mercado of the Fort Myers Capitals against the Nitro Explosives. He fashioned a fine 4-hitter in blanking them 5-0 and chalked up 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

 | Thursday, September 6th, 1984: Reading Takes A Title
The Reading Royals concluded the season in grand fashion -- they won the BLB Single A A Championship. They nailed it down at Ballpark of Paradise by whipping the Fort Myers Capitals 4-2 to win it all -- 4-2.
Their motto for the season was "Win or Die Trying".
"They never let up and they never stop trying the whole season," the Royals manager proudly told reporters. "They hustled and fought the whole season and it continued in the playoffs. They are a very special bunch of guys."
To get their 1st league crown, the Royals finished up the regular season in the Domestic League A Ale A with a 71-49 record, ending up in first place in the division standings.

Seattle pitcher Yoshi Kiyomizu gave the Fort Myers Capitals fits today as he blanked them 8-0 on 4 hits. He registered 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in the shutout.
His manager said, "When he's locating his pitches, he becomes unpredictable. He had Fort Myers guessing the entire game."
This season Kiyomizu has compiled a 9-6 record with a 2.22 ERA in 16 starts.
