Denver rode the magical arm of Eric Cafferty in a 3-0 shutout win over Dallas. He shackled them on 5 hits and fanned 12. Almost to a man, the Dallas Snappers said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
So far this year Cafferty has made 33 starts, tossed 204.2 innings, struck out 190 batters and walked 140. His record is 10-20 with a 4.62 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .226 batting average.

"I'm frustrated right now," said Denver reliever Macerio Irigaray. "I can't help this team by sitting on the bench or in the training room." Unfortunately for the Bulls, that's where he will be spending the next 1-2 weeks. Irigaray suffered a tender elbow into today's game against Syracuse while throwing a pitch. "Believe me," he said, "I won't be out a day longer than I have to be."
This year Irigaray has earned 1 save, worked 73.1 innings, fanned 49 hitters, and recorded a 4.91 ERA. He has also put up a 4-1 won-lost mark.

 | Sunday, September 9th, 1984: Puerias Tosses Shutout for Mississippi
Manuel Puerias was downright nasty in pitching a 6-0 shutout against Denver. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Bulls were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 2-hit shutout the Storm hurler chalked up 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
In 32 starts this season Puerias has recorded a 11-14 record and a 3.64 ERA.
