| Breaking News | | Thursday, July 26th, 1984: Marín Sparkles, Blanks Lowell "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Dani Marín did as he led the Dice to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Patriots.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Lowell manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Marín yielded 2 hits and had 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in a standout performance.
This season to date Marín has a record of 9 wins and 7 losses with a 4.04 ERA, has appeared in 22 games and struck out 113 in 151.1 innings. | | Thursday, July 19th, 1984: Rodríguez Baffles Guilford in Shutout In an outstanding outing, Víctor Rodríguez tamed Guilford on a 3-hit shutout. The Lowell hurler went the distance, finishing with 10 strikeouts and no walks in the 9-0 win.
"He had a lot of first pitch strikes and kept us off balance with a lot of off-speed stuff," according to the Guilford manager. "We just didn't get too many balls squared up today."
To date Rodríguez is 7-7 in 19 starts with a 3.55 ERA and has 122 strikeouts in 129.1 innings. | | Monday, July 16th, 1984: Rivera Goes 5-6 Against Lowell There are moments in a player's career that are etched into their memories forever. The 21-year-old catcher told reporters in the postgame interview, "This is a day I won't forget soon, but I'll settle to just get a hit or two every day...enough hits to hang around the league a little bit longer... like 10... 15 more years maybe."
H. Rivera singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, doubled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
For 1984 Rivera is hitting .200 with 2 home runs and is getting on base at a .231 rate. His totals include 17 RBIs, 8 walks, and 24 runs scored.
