The Hundred center fielder had a field day in the 13-1 triumph over the Joliet Ice Vipers, finishing up with a 5-5 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus just to see the ball and try to get a good pitch."
Well, Demonteverde must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
F. Demonteverde hit a two-run double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, walked in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off K. Hamm in the 9th.
So far this season Demonteverde has hit .283 with 2 home runs and 17 RBIs. He has played in 31 games and scored 12 times. | | Monday, April 30th, 1984: Renderos Mystifies Joliet in Shutout All went well for Héctor Renderos of the Battle Creek Flakes as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Joliet Ice Vipers, limiting them to 6 hits while ringing up 2 strikeouts and surrendering 2 walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Renderos.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Joliet skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
