| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, April 9th, 1985: Wight Blitzes Charleston The Mavericks whipped the Rebels in a 3-0 whitewash today at Blackbears Ballpark. It was a masterful outing for Bill Wight, who shut out Charleston on 6 hits.
|  | Wednesday, September 19th, 1984: ILAA Outstanding Pitcher Award Goes to Schenkevelt What a season! And what a pitcher! Import League AA batsmen were bewitched, bothered and bewildered this year by the 1984 Outstanding Pitcher Award winner, Hakon Schenkevelt of the Rebels.
The Charleston ace started 22 games, threw 155.1 innings, struck out 111 and gave out 25 free passes. In all, he compiled a 14-5 record with a 2.84 ERA and held the opposition to a .250 batting average.
Schenkevelt will be honored this weekend at the SION Baseball Writers Association annual awards banquet. |  | Thursday, September 6th, 1984: Middletown Falcons Win AA Championship The celebrations have begun. The streets are alive with people and the confetti is flying. The Middletown Falcons have done it -- they won the 1984 AA Championship. The Falcons defeated the Charleston Rebels 8-3 at Buzz Ballpark to take the title. Middletown took the series 4-2 for their 1st BLB Double A championship.
After the game, the victorious Falcons manager told the secret to his team's great season and AA Championship triumph, "The harder you work, the luckier you get," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm the luckiest guy in the world today."
