Tuesday, October 9th, 1984: Pittsburgh's Haydon Injured
It took the Pittsburgh team doctor a while to realize it, but shortstop Howard Haydon won't simply play through his torn thigh muscle, after he got hurt running the bases in today's Snappers-Millers game. At first, it looked like Haydon might be back as early as tomorrow, but now it looks like the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 3 weeks. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Haydon as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.

In 141 games this year Haydon is batting .271 with 30 doubles, 7 triples and 19 home runs. He has scored 72 runs and driven in 103.
Monday, October 8th, 1984: Buzzell Hurt, Listed Day-to-Day
Pittsburgh star third baseman Johnny Buzzell was injured yesterday against Dallas while making a defensive play. He sustained a strained rib cage muscle and is listed on the injury report as day-to-day. The team trainer said Buzzell will likely not miss too much action, perhaps 2 weeks.

Buzzell is batting .283 in 1984 with 29 home runs, 122 RBIs and 101 runs scored. He has 161 hits in 568 at-bats, 62 walks and a .352 on-base percentage.
Wednesday, September 26th, 1984: MacKnight Out 2 Weeks with Injury
Watching Joe MacKnight getting helped off the field today at Kennywood Park, fans of the Pittsburgh Millers feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the right fielder will miss 2 weeks with a hyperextended knee. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. MacKnight suffered the injury making a defensive play in the game against the Whalers.

This year in 145 games MacKnight has batted at a .253 clip with 128 hits, 20 home runs, 74 RBIs, 96 walks, a .378 on-base percentage and 71 runs scored.
