| | Thursday, September 27th, 1984: Carbarin Rewarded with 1984 ILAAA Outstanding Hitter Award It was a season to remember for Joe Carbarin. He was one of the most dangerous men in league when he had a bat in his hand and the Import League AAA announced today that he had won the Outstanding Hitter Award for the year 1984.
The Winston-Salem first baseman shellshocked opposing moundsmen with a .347 batting average, 19 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs and 71 RBIs while compiling a .408 on-base percentage and scoring 69 runs.
The annual SBWA awards banquet is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to be honored for their outstanding achievements this past season. | | Wednesday, August 15th, 1984: Memphis Humbled in Shutout by Warthogs On the hill Yatsuhiro Tanaka stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Memphis 3-0.
At bat the Railcats floundered, fizzled, and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Memphis manager said. "He kept us off balance."
The Winston-Salem pitcher hurled a 2-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 1 walk and numbered 9 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Tanaka said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
To date this season Tanaka is 9-11 with 24 starts and an ERA of 4.58 with 121 strikeouts in 159.1 innings. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 6-1, .857 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 5-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record on the road | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 2-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-1, .750 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 3-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-1, .857 PCT | | Record in April | 6-1, .857 PCT |
