Medical officials from the Pawtucket Patriots reported that the club's 38-year-old catcher, Malachi Stiver, suffered a strained hamstring muscle in yesterday's matchup against the Pittsburgh Millers while running the bases. Stiver is expected to miss 2 weeks of action.
Currently Stiver is hitting .262 and has collected 21 home runs, 90 RBIs, 96 walks, a .372 OBP and scored 81 runs. He has played in 144 games.

 | Tuesday, September 18th, 1984: Pawtucket's Nickell Down with Injury
It took the Pawtucket team doctor a while to realize it, but center fielder Adam Nickell won't simply play through his fractured ankle, after he got hurt colliding with a player at a base in today's Slammers-Patriots game. At first, it looked like Nickell might be back as early as tomorrow, but now it looks like the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 2-3 months. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Nickell as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
For the year Nickell is batting .297 with 175 hits, 18 doubles, 5 triples and 1 home run. He has 5 stolen bases, scored 77 runs and driven in 30.

 | Monday, September 17th, 1984: Bad News for Pawtucket, Tsu-wee Xi Injured
Pawtucket fans will be disappointed to learn that Tsu-wee Xi developed a strained tricep muscle while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Pawtucket Patriots manager that Xi was expected to miss 2 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the closer could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
In 1984 Xi has appeared in 47 games, saving 28. His record is 3-5 with 42 strikeouts in 46.1 innings and a 3.30 ERA.
