| Breaking News |  | Monday, April 15th, 1985: Explosives Naito to Miss Year
Izo Naito has to call it a season. The Nitro Explosives starting pitcher sustained a season-ending injury against the Eugene Sting and will not play again this year according to club doctors. Naito was injured while throwing a pitch. His doctors diagnosed it as a torn ulnar collateral ligament and stated that he would not be able to play for 7-8 months.

It was a razor-sharp performance by Luis Mercado of the Fort Myers Capitals against the Nitro Explosives. He fashioned a fine 4-hitter in blanking them 5-0 and chalked up 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

 | Wednesday, August 8th, 1984: Hernández Untouchable in Masterpiece Over Seattle
In an impressive mound performance, Manny Hernández of the Nitro Explosives checked the Seattle Pilots on a 4-hitter and held them scoreless.
"He was getting ahead of us and keeping the ball off the plate," according to the Seattle manager.
"Hernández kept us confused the whole game."
The Nitro hurler rang up 5 strikeouts and issued no walks in his 17-0 shutout victory.
In 8 starts this season Hernández has gathered 3 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 56.1 innings, allowed 54 hits, and struck out 25, and he has a 3.83 ERA.
