| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 12th, 1984: Laverte on Fire, 5-5 Against Hartford It was a parade of hits for Currito Laverte of the Indianapolis Clowns...one right after another...a total of 5 for the day. He ravaged the Hartford Whalers for 5 hits in his 5 at-bats and propelled the Clowns to a 10-3 victory.
"Laverte was really good and we were really bad," groaned the Whalers manager. "Next time he's that hot, we'll just walk him."

He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Slammers to victory 17-1 over the Hartford Whalers. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-6 performance.
The sweet swinging right fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
The skipper of the Whalers wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
R. Parnell singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
This season Parnell has delivered 135 hits in 513 at-bats for a .263 average with 15 home runs. He is getting on base at a .308 pace and his totals also include 68 RBIs, 34 walks and 73 runs scored. The 26-year-old star suffered the injury in yesterday's Guides-Whalers game while throwing a pitch. "It's a gametime decision," noted the team doctor, "It all depends on how Takanibu feels later today. If he can play, he will."
So far this year Maeno has nailed down 1 save. His won-lost record is 5-3 with a 5.30 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 84-78, .519 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 18.0 GB | | Record at home | 41-40, .506 PCT | | Record on the road | 43-38, .531 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 37-27, .578 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 27-23, .540 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 57-55, .509 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in May | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in June | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in July | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record in August | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in September | 15-13, .536 PCT |
