Monday, May 20th, 1985: Great Week for Athens's First Baseman His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Al Shipp was rewarded with the Import League AA Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Athens Brawlers first baseman hit .524 while collecting 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBIs.
So far this season Shipp is batting .317 with 2 home runs.
Monday, May 20th, 1985: Week's Best Player Honored by DLAA So far in his young career, Bao Cahn has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Domestic League AA in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 21-year-old Fort Lee Generals first baseman hit at a torrid .636 clip as he collected 14 hits in 22 at-bats, no home runs, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
This season Cahn has banged out 61 hits in 164 at-bats for a .372 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .432 pace and his totals also include 21 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
Sunday, May 19th, 1985: Chavero Whitewashes Mavericks Camden pitcher Joe Chavero gave the Mojave Mavericks fits today as he blanked them 9-0 on 3 hits. He registered 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in the shutout.
His manager said, "When he's locating his pitches, he becomes unpredictable. He had Mojave guessing the entire game."
In 1985 Chavero has fashioned a 2-3 mark, 3.79 ERA and pitched 38 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .288 against him and he has logged 28 strikeouts.
