 | Wednesday, September 5th, 1984: Gorrie Raps Virginia for 5 Hits
It was a good day all around. Wilmington whipped Virginia 8-5 and John Gorrie displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day at Wilson Field.
"Some days, lady luck is on your side," he modestly told SION reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. John is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have, and vice versa."
The 26-year-old center fielder for the Wildcats collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats to get his name in the record book.
J. Gorrie singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
