 | Saturday, September 1st, 1984: IL Batter of the Month Honors to Fortin
Beach balls were coming in at Jerry Fortin in August and he banged, bashed, and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .294 batting average and hauling in the Import League Batter of the Month trophy.
The 33-year-old Washington catcher collected 25 hits last month in 24 games. He put up 12 home runs, 21 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Fortin also drew 17 walks and compiled a .404 on-base percentage.
This season Fortin is batting .289 with 112 hits, 20 doubles, 1 triple, and 29 home runs. He has 2 stolen bases, 78 runs scored, and 67 runs batted in. | |
