"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Manuel Puerias did as he led the Storm to a 17-0 shutout victory over the Tobs.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Carolina manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Puerias yielded 6 hits and had 6 strikeouts and 4 walks in a standout performance.
His record in 1984 is 8-12 in 26 starts and Puerias has a 4.16 ERA. | |
