Monday, August 27th, 1984: Week's Top Performer Honored by IL Washington Bats third baseman Florentino Corulla rose above the controversy surrounding his soon-to-expire contract, thriving under pressure last week and copping the Player of the Week award in the Import League.

Monday, August 27th, 1984: Clapp Red-Hot, DL Player of the Week A hot-hitting week got Bob Clapp the Domestic League Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers. The Pittsburgh catcher slammed them for a .500 average, 12 hits in 24 at-bats, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 4 runs. In the postgame press conference, Clapp shared his hitting philosophy with the SION scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them...nothin' more than that."
In 1984 Clapp is hitting .282 with 98 hits, 10 home runs, 48 RBIs, 27 walks, .337 OBP and has scored 47 runs.
Sunday, August 26th, 1984: Lanbin Will Miss 2 Weeks Abran Lanbin had to leave the Kodiaks game against Morgantown after suffering a fractured hand while being hit by a pitch. He will be out of the lineup at least 2 weeks. He told SION reporters, "I just felt a sharp pain when it happened. I knew there was something wrong."
Lanbin is hitting .285 in 1984. He has added 68 RBIs and 20 home runs and has gotten on base at a .371 rate.
